Bryan Museum: Romance of the West
It is getting to be that time of the year where the North is blanketed in snow and thoughts turn towards somewhere warm and wonderful. That’s why you’re thinking of staying at the Stella Mare RV Resort after all. Right? You’re imagining the sunny weather and beaches.
That’s great, because those are some of the great things you’ll find here. However, we do occasionally have bad weather. In those cases, you’ll need to have some options. Fortunately, Galveston is full of options for you to choose from. We’re recommending you spend some time at The Bryan Museum: Romance of the West,
near Stella Mare.
Bryan Museum
The Bryan Museum is located in the historic Galveston Orphans Home. Here you’ll find galleries with an emphasis on Texas and the American West, particularly the Spanish influences. They’re open between 10 am and 5 pm, Wednesday though Sunday. Admission is reasonable with adults paying $14 for a ticket. They have seven permanent galleries and several special galleries that rotate in and out.
Galleries
The two special galleries that are featured at the Bryan Museum are Maxfield Parrish: The Gertrude Vanderbilt Whitney Murals and Catch the Quack. The former is a collection of murals created by Maxfield Parrish at the request of Gertrude Vanderbilt in 1912.
Two of the nine murals were stolen in a crime that sits on the FBI’s list of Top Ten International Art Crimes. The latter gallery focuses on quack cures of the 19th and early 20th centuries. See the outrageous claims put forth in the devices and cures of the past.
