One of the best ways to enjoy your time here in Galveston while you’re staying at the Stella Mare RV Resort is to go fishing on Galveston Bay. You’ll find all sorts of options for a great fishing experience. We’ve got everything you could possibly want to get started including bait and tackle shops, a marina for your boat and charter services if you don’t have your own.
First thing you need to do is get yourself a Texas fishing license. You can get one at Academy or Walmart. Check out the fishing regulations with the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department. You’ll find that the bay is much calmer than the Gulf, so you don’t need a monstrosity of a boat to catch anything. Most folks that are fishing in the bay are aiming for trout, redfish, black drum, croaker, and flounder.
Where to Fish on Galveston Bay
If you’re not looking to take a boat, consider checking out some piers. You can visit Seawolf Park on Pelican Island, especially if you want flounder. You’ll need to pay to get in, but they do provide some basic amenities.
You could also hit up Jamail Bay Park. If you’re experienced at fishing on the bay, you can consider wade fishing along the bay shore. You’ll want to wear lightweight pants to prevent jellyfish stings. Don’t forget to wear a protective hat and sunglasses to cut the glare. While you should keep your gear simple, it is probably a good idea to wear a lifejacket.
