The Fun of Galveston
The summer has heated up and it is time to spend part of your summer at the beach. When you’re staying at our fun Galveston RV Resort, Stella Mare, you’re primed to do just that. However, sometimes you might want to take a break from just laying on the beach and getting a tan. That’s ok, we do have a variety of other things to do in the area and one of the must dos in Galveston is seeing some of the local museums.
The American West
If you’re interested in learning more about Texas and the American West, you can’t do better than visiting the Bryan Museum. The collection spans 12,000 years and contains around 70,000 pieces. You’ll find antique firearms, spurs, stone tools and arrowheads, books in Spanish, German, French, and English, folk art and more.
Sailing the Seas
If you want to learn more about the high seas, you should visit the Texas seaport Museum and see the 1877 tall ship ELISSA. This floating National Historic Landmark is also one of America’s Treasures. You can walk the deck and see what it was like to challenge the ocean. In the museum and theatre, you can witness the story of ELISSA’s resurrection from the scrapyard.
Riding the Rails
If sailing isn’t your thing, what about a visit to the Railroad museum? Located at the head of the Strand, this vast museum has one of the largest restored railroad collection in the southwest. There are more than 40 pieces of locomotives and rolling stock. You can enjoy the restored trains, check out exhibits and on Saturdays between 11 and 2 ride the “Harborside Express” train.
