Hooked
Is the Ashton Kutcher-backed app that started the text story trend, and it’s still one of the best around. The idea behind Hooked is to make reading addictive for young people by delivering the story in bite-sized text message pieces. A lot of these text message-based apps (including Hooked) require a premium membership if you want to look at pictures and videos, but the scary stories are always scarier if you can imagine the visuals yourself.
Creepy Pasta
Here’s a story from October 2020 – Dark Web Treasure Hunt…
For my birthday, I decided to treat myself to a Dark Web mystery box gift. It was a service I’d used several times before, and they had never disappointed, sending heaps of useless, but funny things to my doorstep.
“Happy birthday Trevor!” a note on the box read.
I picked up the package placed on my doorstep, and noticed a letter attached to it.
“There comes a time in every man’s life, where their skills and knowledge has to be tested. With that in mind, I shall set you out on a treasure hunt. Please follow the instructions within the box, and for safety reasons, burn every letter once it has been read, or solved.”

Lifeline
If sci-fi horror stories are your jam, check out Lifeline. In this game, a marooned astronaut named Taylor is sending messages from space. He is all alone, and you are his only contact with the outside world, so you must give him advice and help him figure out what to do. You really have to consider your choices with this game, because the wrong decision could lead to Taylor’s death. This story happens in real time. So, for instance, last night Taylor asked you where he should sleep and you didn’t hear from him again until early this morning. Thankfully, he made it through the night! Save Taylor!
