Spring 2021 Events in Galveston
While Galveston is a year-round destination, come Springtime things really start to get busy as local residents gear up for the upcoming tourist season with festivals and activities everyone can enjoy. Here’s what coming for current events in Galveston.
April 15 – 18 – Featherfest
The signature project of the Galveston Island Nature Tourism Council (GINTC) is the annual birding and nature photography festival held every April during Spring migration. Galveston is actually one of the top spots in the country for birding as it hosts a variety of habitats within a small geographical area. Some 300 bird species make their temporary home here.
April 16 – 24 – Galveston County Fair and Rodeo
While the regular events and schedule of the rodeo will be different this year, the organizers are working hard to bring you all of the events possible, as well as the BBQ cook-off on April 8 – 10. Participants will be able to enjoy the Mutton Bustin’, Team Roping and Barrel Race events, plus other exciting attractions. See their website for details.
April 24 – Sylvan Beach Festival
A festival on the bay, the 65th annual beach festival is located at Sylvan Beach Park on Galveston Bay. Festivities kick off at 10 am with a parade, with activities immediately following throughout the day. Live musical entertainment takes the stage at noon, with artists such as Wade Bowen and the Randy Rogers Band. There will be food, arts & craft booths, a carnival, a cook-off, a beauty pageant, and much more, with the fun lasting until midnight. Tickets are just $10.
May 1-2 & 8-9 – Historic Homes Tour
The Galveston Historical Foundation opens the doors to the town’s stunning architectural history through public tours of privately-owned homes during this yearly festival. Small homes, large homes, and everything in between, this tour holds something special for everyone, and offers a unique insight into southern Texas history and culture. Homes are open from 10am – 6pm Saturday & Sunday. In addition to the tours, the event will feature several special events, allowing visitors unique experiences in many of the historical sites across Galveston island.
May 7 – 9 – Texas Crab Festival
About 25 miles east of Stella Mare RV Resort, this crab festival is held on Crystal Beach. It is a full weekend of family fun, live music…and crabs! With all types of food (even a gumbo cook off!), arts and crafts, and a surprising array of crab dishes, the fun starts at 6pm Friday through midnight, with the festival ending Sunday at 6pm.
May 15 – The 13th Annual Galveston Island Beach Revue
Based on the island events from summers long past such as the Pageant of Pulchritude and Splash Day, locals have resurrected these favorites into a contemporary 2-day, family-friendly event. This Revue continues to grow in popularity every year through various events, contestant participation, and attendance. It has been officially marked as the City of Galveston’s “Kickoff to Summer” event.
