Summer 2022 Events in Galveston
This summer promises to be a doozy! There are so many fun and varied events and festivals happening in and around Galveston for just about everyone. Whether you’re into wine, pub crawls, beach sports, history, family-friendly, or just want to celebrate our planet’s oceans, Galveston has got your summer plans covered.
This is by no means an exhaustive list. There’s much more happening this summer, you just have to get down here and see for yourself!
Music Night on The Strand (several dates)

Juneteeth! in Galveston – entire month of June
Galveston is where this all began, folks! You’ll be coming home to where Juneteenth originated when the island hosts festivities to celebrate Juneteenth all month long. Galveston Island holds a special place in U.S. and African-American history; it is home to the first African American secondary school, as well as being the hometown of World Heavyweight Champ Jack Johnson.

World Oceans Day Festival – June 4
This day celebrates the fact that the oceans connect us all. Join local vendors and partners for a fun-filled family event. You can sign up ahead of time to paint a trash barrel, shop vendors, and watch the kids do activities of their own. This day is celebrated around the world and Galveston provides engaging activities that focuse on restoring balance and vibrancy to our big waters.
Flamingo Fest Golf Cart & Parade Pub Crawl – June 11
In this 3rd Annual Golf Cart Parade and Pub Crawl, parade through the Post Office District to celebrate Pink Flamingo Day in golf carts, scooters, and bikes. The best decorated mode of transport and best costume will be awarded. Afterwards, the pub crawl will take place for those who wish to imbibe.
Hands-on History Festival – June 29
The Bryan Museums hosts this hands-on event celebrating Texas history with live Celtic, maritime, and pioneer music. A chuckwagon, branding, gunsmith, comedic show, games, costumed historical reenactments, delicious BBQ, beer and wine, and much more will be the order of the day.
Independence Day Parade and Fireworks Show – July 4
Come join the festivities as the Galveston night sky lights up in celebration of our nation’s independence. A patriotic parade sponsored by the Marine Corps League begins at Seawall Blvd at 59th street and heads east earlier in the evening.
AIA Sandcastle Competitions – August 20
The 36th annual AIA Sandcastle Competition is coming to East Beach in Galveston! It is a fund-raising event for AIA Houston. This year, dozens of teams have their eyes and shovels set on winning the prestigious “golden bucket” award. Firms begin months in advance generating ideas for their unique sandcastle designs and plotting strategies. Then on event day, all the teams stretch along the beach front and meticulously craft their designs in the sand. It is quite a sight to see!
Judging takes place across several disciplines, including originality, artistic execution, technical difficulty, and more. Awards are given in several categories.
Galveston Island Food and Wine Festival – August
Pinot noir, Cabernet, Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, and more. It’s all here. Including delectable food! This yearly festival showcases an incredible array of wines and live music in Galveston. Be sure to stay tuned to their website for when they finalize the dates in August!
